PSD National Standing Bureau to establish mandate on new gov’t formation in Wednesday meeting

The National Standing Bureau of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will meet online on Wednesday at 12:00 to determine the next steps for the Social Democrats in the context of forming a new government and to establish the mandate with which the party’s leaders will enter negotiations with the other parliamentary parties, according to political sources.

According to the sources, negotiations between the PSD, the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) could take place on Wednesday with a view to reaching an agreement on the formation of a parliamentary majority to support a potential PSD minority government, agerpres reports.

President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday that the option emerging from consultations at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace appears to be a minority government and that the process of forming a new executive must be „accelerated.”

„Today, I held consultations with political parties and parliamentary groups to identify a solution to overcome the political crisis we were facing. The option that appears to be taking shape is that of a minority political government based on a parliamentary support agreement negotiated and agreed in advance,” the head of state wrote on X.

He invited parliamentary parties to begin discussions on signing such a parliamentary agreement and subsequently to submit proposals for a minority government formula supported in accordance with that agreement.

„The entire process must proceed at an accelerated pace because the urgency of installing a functional and stable government is considerable,” the President said.
