The course of the cross-border Tisza River, which runs along a significant portion of the Romanian-Ukrainian state border, has been included in a European project for risk prevention and adaptation to accelerated climate change.
„We had a working meeting recently with representatives of the Somes-Tisza Water Basin Administration to prepare a funding application under the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine Cross-Border Programme (Call 2). The project falls under: Priority 1: A resilient and green border region – Objective 1.1: Climate change adaptation, risk prevention (SO 2.4),” Maramures County Council (CJ) President Gabriel Zetea said on Tuesday.
According to him, the available budget from Interreg funds for the second Call is 28,500,000 euro. The value of the Interreg grants awarded will be a maximum of 90% of the total eligible project costs (for each project leader/partner), and the co-financing rate a minimum of 10%. A maximum of 5% of the budget allocated to the Romanian partner can be requested from the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA).
The Maramures County Council president also underscored that he will access those projects which bring appreciable benefits to the county.
„I came here to work, together with all my colleagues in the County Council, and that’s what we do every day: we look for solutions through European funding, where the county’s co-financing is as low as possible and the benefits for Maramures are as great as possible,” Gabriel Zetea added.
By the end of this year, the county administration will open the new road bridge over the Tisza River, between Romania and Ukraine – an investment currently under development. Until the bridge is opened, road traffic is carried out on a wooden bridge built in the beginning of 2000. Traffic between the two countries is one-way on the bridge, coordinated by the border police. The bridge also has two pedestrian lanes for citizens crossing the border on foot.
